I really, really love my course right now. We're working on a presentation for our speech class, English/American rock songs translated into German and read as poetry (there's some really funny stuff emerging) and since my teacher has been driven close to insanity by my combination of English/Austrian accent, I'm allowed to do one of my songs in English. So I'm doing Slim Shady in the style of Queen Elizabeth II. And it is so hilarious, even though I'm not a great actor. I can't wait to stand there with my white gloves and my handbag, explaining to the audience that I'm the real Shady, and will they all put one of those fingers on each hand up.

I'm having a lot more trouble with my second song text. I wanted to do Born to Run, but I couldn't find an even halfway decent translation, and my own attempts have foundered after getting about a third of the way through (The phrase "Born to run" itself is a real fucker to translate, let alone the rest of it), so now I think I'm going to do I Will Survive, which has a fair amount of comic potential as well. One of my directing colleagues is doing My Way, in the most amazingly literal translation that makes the song 20 times as corny as it already is, and while I'd love to find something like that, I don't see how I can top it. Any suggestions would be very welcome, but they have to be fast, as the class is at 8am tomorrow, so I have to learn the thing tonight.
