Grumble grumble

Argh, why is plotting so DIFFICULT? I am labouring away on the Wimseyfic, and I feel as if I have Samuel Johnson for a beta: "Your manuscript has both style and plot, but the part that has plot has no style, and the part that has style has no plot". How on earth did DLS manage to combine both? And WHY CAN'T I????
