A most absolute and excellent horse

Behind the cut (because I did say there would be a lot of them) baby piccies!

This is Navarra (named after her great grandmother) a few hours after she was born. She's got her mother's delicate face (Famosa really doesn't look like a Lipizzaner, there's nothing Rubenesque about her at all):

My foal strokes Famosa's foal:

When she got up, she was still very wobbly:

Today I managed to get out to the stables early enough to get some pictures of her and her very protective mother on the mud paddock:

Scratching your nose is very difficult!

Famosa is a wonderful mother and extremely careful about who comes into her box and how close they get to the foal. We've taken her out a couple of times without Navarra, just for a few minutes, so they could see that it wasn't the end of the world. The first time Navarra didn't mind at all. She came over and sniffed me and let me stroke her, but the next two times she ran around and whinnied. Famosa, on the other hand, was calmer each time, and although she did a fair amount of dancing about and whinnying, and licked Navarra all over when she got back into the box, she wasn't nearly as panic-stricken as the first time. Navarra looks so funny when she skitters over the paddock, like a long-legged spider, as light as a feather and as quick as a dragonfly.

OMG, baby horse! She's incredible. Also, your daughter's hair is really pretty.
