Wolfgang left yesterday, to sail from Trieste to Malta, after a really horrible couple of weeks of clearing his desk so he could go. I just wish he wasn't going to find an even bigger mountain of work waiting for him when he gets back, because it undoes all the good work of relaxing that the sailing achieves. However he is gone, most certainly to be happy, and I have heaved something of a sigh of relief (excessive work makes him difficult to live with) and am now looking forward to two weeks of happy squalor, in which I do very little but surf the internet, write, ride and pick the kids up from school. Of course, this plan relies on no work turning up for me in that time, but I have a good feeling about it.

I am also going to start running again. Last summer I was doing 40km a week, this year I somehow didn't get round to it, and last night I went running with the kids and was easily the least fit of the party. The ten year old skipped ahead, in the manner of ten year olds, pausing occasionally to complain that it was too far and then charging off again when something caught her interest; and the fifteen year old maintained a steady pace and a conversation, both of which were a little too much for me.

Also, it is the Kellergassenfest this weekend, so I am morally obliged to go and support the local wine-growing economy by drinking large quantities of Gruener Veltliner and Zweigelt. I also have to take Tashi to the doctor, since she has a DISGUSTING thing at the back of her mouth (I now have a very vivid understanding of a concept I had never previously been able to visualise, namely that Jane Austen standby a "putrid throat"). According to the pictures on teh internetz it is tonsilitis, but as she has no fever and is in robustly good health, I refuse to believe teh internetz.

I also have to find time to take her into town to buy a pair of gym trousers for voltigieren, which is gymnastics on a horse; she has been doing it for a year now and is very good at it. As it is one of my sekrit ambitions - one that I shall never fulfil - to be able to stand on a galloping horse, my hair streaming out behind me in the wind, I am very impressed that she can stand up at trot without falling off. But she now needs the special trousers of Tightness and Glitteriness if she is to go up into the next group, and since the next session is today, we shall have to brave the traffic and go across town.
