Damn, why doesn't my work involve that kind of research? I picked the wrong career! Though it certainly wouldn't help my productivity. It's the sidebar. There you are, happily looking at just one thing, and it shows you another four that just can't ignored and they show you others, and before you know it you've got 6 tabs open and you're watching someone's vid of vampire kittens riding a lawnmower. I'm very grateful to the Vampires fans who've uploaded so many versions, though! How else would I see the Japanese version with Herbert wearing a loincloth?
All I wanted to do was show the kids the 1970s Birds Eye Peas "pop" advert to explain why I burst into song when they kept making popping noises with my glasses case and we were there until 11 p.m. watching The Wombles, Trumpton and Bod via the changing history of Lucozade advertising.
*promises will finish watching the vampires one day*
"Fresh as the moment when the pod went pop"? I said to Wolfgang just the other day that when I'm demented in old people's home, the last thing my ravaged brain will lose is 1970s advertising jingles. It's uncanny how the things stick.
I had forgotten about Bod, but it sounds like an evening well-spent (I'm jealous of you for having children who are prepared to share your interests. Mine smile in amused tolerance but wouldn't dream of watching 70s TV).
Did you see the story about the Dresden old people's home that recreated typical East German rooms for the residents with Alzheimer's disease who could remember things from the era?
Yes. I said that and they had no idea what I was talking about so I went to find evidence.
Mine play the saxophone and found Bod interesting in terms of jazzy theme tunes. But they might just be being polite. I am expecting the middle one to turn grumpy on hitting 13 in three weeks' time.
You never know, he might stay lovely. My younger one did. I think it's partly that people who are very empathetic and socially skilled have more effective ways of getting what they want than permanent rows. My elder one immediately goes on the attack if she's feeling defensive, whereas the younger one is all sweet reason and constantly gets her own way because she's so nice about it.
Yes. There was a period where eldest was about 13 and middle one about 10 when she was constantly furiously accusing him of being evil and sneaky by going about getting his own way by being nice and felt that this was deeply unfair and cheating and we were all being tricked by him. But they do get on a lot better now, having accepted that they are just both very different people And That Is OK, at least that's what I keep telling them.
The sidebar is an irresistible lure, it is true. I've been very lucky this summer and have two musicals to do, although I am slightly dreading the second one as I suspect it will be dire. If I could still remember how to edit music videos, I'd be sorely tempted to make one of that scene using an assortment of Herberts, each singing in his own language.
Two musicals, your cup runneth over! Hopefully if the second one is dire it will at least be dire in an amusing way.
I'm fairly sure there is at least one multi-lingual Totale Finsternis video out there, but multiple Herberts would be more fun. I didn't know you'd done vids - MfU back in the day?
No, Buffy! I have evidently come full circle on vampires (I had a MASSIVE Spike-crush). By the time I got on to MfU I'd got out of practice with vidding (and also there was bluemeanybeanie producing utterly brilliant, near professional-standard vids that made everyone else's look clumsy and amateurish, so I would have been too embarrassed to try. Truly the great is the enemy of the good!)

I shall give thought to the lyric.

Re: The YouTube rabbithole is a great and terrible place...
It's certainly a nice cheap solution, especially if they recreated the food and (lack of) consumer goods.

Excellent taste, obviously.
