This is a gorgeous picture of Mervyn Bunter in his demobbed state. And I rather like Annie too.
Are the lyrics the men are singing genuine or adapted? I remember my then teenage brother owning a book of song lyrics of WW2, including the unofficial 'adaptations' that many soldiers sang, and my mother looking very askance at it because of the language. But it was history, you see. :-)
There probably is a less vulgar original of the song, but I have no idea how it goes! (all the WWI songs I know come from Oh!What A Lovely War!, so with the exception of the two "adapted" hymns, I only know the soldiers' versions).
I'd love a book of WW2 songs - I don't think I know ANY.
And your mother is quite right, one must lower one's standards when it comes to History :-)
